Following its stunning display of athletic prowess, NLNG was officially crowned the Overall Champion and “Best Sports Company” at the 20th edition of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIG).
The week-long event, which concluded this past Saturday in Abuja, saw Team NLNG surge past the defending champions to claim the top spot on the podium.
The competition was fierce, but NLNG’s consistency across multiple disciplines secured them a comfortable lead.
Team NLNG topped the medal table with an impressive 52 medals; comprising 20 gold, 16 silver and 16 bronze to take the lead from the defending champion, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), which finished second with 49 medals (14 gold, 15 silver and 20 bronze).
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) secured third place with 18 medals, while TotalEnergies finished fourth with 15 medals. Other notable participants included Renaissance, Oando, Seplat Energy, PTI, NUPRC, ND Western, Chevron, NMDPRA, ExxonMobil, Shell and Aradel.
The biennial tournament, held from February 8 to 14, 2026, marked a milestone celebration of four decades of unity, collaboration and sporting excellence within Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
For NLNG, the victory was a reflection of their internal culture. NLNG’s Deputy Managing Director, Olakunle Osobu, joined the team at the Abuja Stadium to celebrate the win. He emphasized that the “winning spirit” displayed on the field is the same one that drives their business operations.
”Excellence is not confined to the boardroom. It is embedded in our culture and reflected in how we compete, collaborate, and win. I am immensely proud of Team NLNG for demonstrating resilience and discipline,” Osobu stated.
The organizers hailed the 20th NOGIG as a “landmark event,” proving that even in a high-stakes industry like oil and gas, there is plenty of room for Corporate Camaraderie: Strengthening ties between competing firms; Wellness: Promoting physical health among industry professionals; and Legacy: Celebrating four decades of sporting tradition.
As the chants of #TeamNLNG faded, the message was clear: NLNG isn’t just leading the way in energy—they’re setting the pace on the track, too.
