Some of the 1986 Alumnae of FEGGICOLLA during their 40th anniversary reunion held recently.
LAGOS – The 1986 graduating set of Federal Government Girls’ College Akure (FEGGICOLLA) celebrated their 40th anniversary reunion on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at the Jara Beach Resort in Lekki.
Under the theme “Then. Now. Always,” the milestone event served as both a nostalgic homecoming and a strategic platform for academic philanthropy.
The gathering focused on bridging the gap between past and present, with the alumnae reaffirming their commitment to a robust scholarship initiative.
For the past three years, the set has funded full tuition for Senior Secondary School (SS1) students who perform incredibly well in their Junior WAEC examinations.
The scholarship program specifically targets excellence in core subjects, including: English and Mathematics, Basic Science, and Yoruba Language.
According to the cordinator Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, the reunion was designed to balance social celebration with tangible Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). “We are focused on a program that supports the current academic standards of our alma mater while honouring our shared history,” she noted.
Beyond the academic focus, the event featured a ceremonial cake cutting and a special segment tagged recognizing “Hidden Leaders” within the set. These were those who have made quiet but significant contributions to their communities and the association.
Attendees, adorned in commemorative sashes bearing the school’s “In Unity We Stand” slogan, engaged in discussions on mentoring younger students and upholding the “Unity School” ethos of national integration.
The event saw a distinguished turnout of alumnae, including: Nike Orolugbagbe, Bunmi Gbadamosi,Victoria Ngozi Uzoigwe, Agatha Cookey, Folayemi Babatunde, Yewande Ayoade, Folake Ojemuyiwa, Bolaji Odunfa, Foluke Otiko, and Funlola Ajayi.
Also in attendance were Folake Akingbade, Funmi Olowogorioye, Foluso Moses, Foluke Adeleye, Jane-Frances Obilaja, Nene Ibok, Angela Amaebite, Edirin Edu, Toyin Philips, Kemi Ogunsuyi, Biodun Adefila, and Ethel Egwabor.
The association announced that a sister reunion is scheduled for later this year to accommodate classmates residing in the diaspora, ensuring the 40th-anniversary celebrations reach every member of the 1986-fold.
