The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Isaac Satlet, a 22-year-old Nigerian e-hailing driver, in Pretoria, South Africa.
Isaac, a student on the verge of graduating next month, was working part-time as a Bolt driver to support himself and had plans to relocate to Canada for further studies before his life was tragically cut short.
Describing the incident as ‘deeply troubling’ and ‘unacceptable’, Chairman/CEO NIDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa called for justice and prosecution of those involved, saying that the increasing rate of killings and criminality against Nigerians in South Africa is worrisome.
She urged South African authorities to protect non-indigenes’ lives and property, strengthen response protocols for diaspora incidents, and ensure immediate arrest and prosecution of those involved, emphasising that justice must be served.
Isaac, remembered as a hardworking and ambitious student, was reportedly attacked on February 11, 2026, by a male and female passenger who had booked his services via an e-hailing platform.
The attackers strangled him, and his body was later found in Atteridgeville with multiple bullet wounds
A female suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in court, with authorities searching for the male suspect.
The incident has sparked outrage, with calls for improved safety measures for e-hailing drivers in the country.
