Lagos — The Goethe-Institut Nigeria has postponed its planned reopening ceremony earlier scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

The Institut had announced that after months of renovation, it would reopen with a special celebration from 2pm till midnight at 7 Anifowoshe Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, featuring an international stage programme and curated art presentations.

In a statement released to the press, the Institut said construction works at its new premises had taken longer than anticipated and would not be completed in time for the planned opening.

“We were very much looking forward to welcoming you to the reopening of Goethe-Institut Nigeria. Unfortunately, construction works at our new premises have taken longer than anticipated and will not be completed in time,” the statement read.

It added that it wants to welcome guests into a fully completed institute rather than an active construction site.

“We have made the difficult decision to postpone the reopening by a few weeks. This was not an easy decision, and we sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause,” it stated.

The Institut said a new date for the reopening will be communicated shortly.
